Essentials' Extras

We aren't called the Beer Essentials for nothing. This is why we have put together this section of items that we don't think are absolutely necessary to brew many fine batches of beer. We also think that you should be able to make the choice of what is necessary and what is not all on your own. You will not find these items offered in any of our kits but that does not mean they don't have some value to you , the brewer. We just feel that they add unnecessary costs for beginners and we don't want that to get in the way of somebody deciding whether or not to begin the hobby of homebrewing. What many of these items do is help make the brewing process more scientific and precise. We won't force this stuff on you but we will gladly sell it to you if you decide to be a strictly scientific brewer.

Glass Carboy 5 Gal. 20lbs: Used for secondary fermentation , that is, to transfer the beer from the primary fermenter and let it age and continue to ferment for an extended period of time. This bottle allows the beer to be exposed to a minimum of air and also it allows you to watch your beer ferment and clear.
Cost: $17.00

Carboy Brush 27 1/2" 1lbs: This sturdy nylon brush is just the ticket to clean those hard to reach dirty places in your glass carboy. If you are going to own a carboy you are going to want to own a carboy brush.
Cost: $5.50

Floating Thermometer 11" 1lbs: May be used to find out exactly when you may pitch your yeast or when to take steeping grains off of the heat. However, you may choose to not have your brewing be an exact science and that's fine, there are alternatives to the use of a thermometer which we detail in our step by step instructions.
Cost: $5.00

Proof & Tralle Hydrometer 1lbs: To measure specific gravity and alcohol content of beer. Specific gravity is a measure of the sugars taken before and after fermentation. Each recipe may have a target specific gravity for you to achieve. This is not always necessary and that is why the hydrometer has ended up in this section. Most of our recipes end up with alcohol content of around 4 to 6%. And as for specific gravity, it is not the only way to know when your beer is finished fermenting. It is a fine instrument but not an essential one.
Cost: $10.00

Bottles For Sale: If you just don't have the time or the desire to collect your own cappable bottles we can take care of that for you too. We offer you two varieties, 12 and 22 ounce. They come in cases of 12 and they are clean.
Case of 12 / 22oz. $8.00 16lbs
Case of 12 / 12oz. $6.50 10lbs

Bottle Tree 5lbs: Bottle washing can sometimes be a messy part of homebrewing. The Bottle tree can take care of that by giving you an area to keep your bottles out of the way while they drip dry. Holds up to ninety bottles safely.
Cost: $29.50
